The competition for one of Tottenham’s midfield targets is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window.

Over the past few weeks, several holding midfielders have been mooted as targets for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of January.

Spurs have been backed to reignite their interest in Conor Gallagher after failing to land the Atletico Madrid star in the summer, but there is another midfielder who has been even more heavily linked with the Lilywhites.

It has been claimed that Tottenham are considering going back in for Kobbie Mainoo in January, with Thomas Frank alleged to be a big fan of the Man United man.

Mainoo has continued to struggle for game time at Old Trafford this season, and some sources have even said that Spurs are one of the 20-year-old’s most likely destinations in January.

However, a report in Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that the midfielder has also emerged as a target for the current Scudetto holders.

It is revealed that Napoli attempted to complete a deal for Mainoo in the summer, but United were reluctant to sell their academy graduate.
