Joshua Kimmich has revealed he has reached out to Florian Wirtz as his Germany team-mate continues to endure a mixed start to his Liverpool career. The Reds fought off interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Man City to sign the playmaker from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £116m this summer.

However, with Arne Slot’s side struggling for form, the 22-year-old is yet to justify his hefty price tag. The reigning Premier League champions have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions, and now trail league-leaders Arsenal by seven points.

Meanwhile, Wirtz is yet to register a goal contribution in the English top-flight. Making 13 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions to date, he registered an assist on his debut in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace, but had to wait until last week’s 5-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt to add to his tally.
