It was Arne Slot's side's sixth loss in their last seven matches and one which means the Reds will not avenge their defeat to Newcastle United at Wembley last season.

The Dutchman made 10 changes to the starting eleven which lost to Brentford in a bid to give some opportunities to the academy stars. However, Palace's experience saw them through, with Ismaila Sarr's brace and late goal from Yeremy Pino enough for a win.

The Eagles had already overcome the Reds on penalties in the Community Shield and also secured a dramatic 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.
