The Toffees fell to a 3-0 defeat to Spurs yesterday, our first competitive loss at Hill Dickinson.

The result flattered Thomas Frank’s side and the officiating seemed to favour the opposition.

Jake O’Brien saw his equaliser ruled out by VAR while Jordan Pickford was clearly fouled for Spurs’ second goal.

However, our weaknesses in certain areas were clear to see, and once again cost us points.

Indeed, speaking on NBC Sports after the game, Tim Howard stated that Moyes needs five new recruits.

He said: “They are probably about five players short, that is half the team.

“They still need a striker, they need at least a full-back. The midfield work hard, but they need two midfielders, and they are still short of a couple of players.

“David Moyes came in and steadied the ship. Everything felt right at the back end of last season. New stadium, there is an aura around that, but the team still needs to get better and that is not going to happen overnight.”

There’s no doubt we’re a work in progress and despite significant investment in the summer, the squad still requires improvement.
