An incident before Aston Villa’s winning goal against Manchester City has been under scrutiny.

City’s Bernardo Silva criticised referee Michael Oliver after Matty Cash’s strike, claiming the official made a mistake.

Silva contested the circumstances which led to Cash's goal, claiming that Matheus Nunes was fouled by Lucas Digne and that his team should have been awarded a free kick, instead of a corner to Villa.

The hosts scored from the resultant set-play and midfielder Silva was not happy, urging the official to apologise and 'don't be arrogant'.

It was discussed on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, with former ref Dermot Gallagher and ex-player Jay Bothroyd disagreeing on the incident between Digne and Nunes.

“The ball was flying out of play off Matheus, which would be a corner,” said Gallagher. “Does Digne affect it? Not in the slightest.”
