HARVEY Barnes is hoping Newcastle's emphatic Champions League win over Benfica acts as a catalyst for the misfiring attack.

The Magpies have been free-scoring in Europe, hitting eight goals in just three games.

But it's been a different story in the Premier League, where United have scored just seven goals in eight outings.

Nick Woltemade, Bruno Guimaraes and fringe striker Will Osula are the only players to have scored for Eddie Howe's side in the Premier League, but it was the wingers who did the damage against Benfica, with Anthony Gordon scoring the opener and substitute Barnes adding a late brace. Jacob Murphy was also in fine form, teeing up Gordon's goal and causing Benfica's defence problems throughout.

Considering Gordon was the star of the show and the recalled Murphy excelled, Barnes may well find himself on the bench again for Saturday's Premier League visit of Fulham.
