Arne Slot has suggested Newcastle United are a "smaller club" than Liverpool in the aftermath of Alexander Isak's injury woe.

The Sweden international has picked up a fresh groin injury and came off during the Reds' 5-1 Champions League win in Frankfurt. Slot used his Press conference after the game to draw some comparisons between the two clubs before flying back from Germany.

Isak refused to train or play for Newcastle last summer with head coach Eddie Howe admitting the star damaged their relationship by going on strike.

The Liverpool boss, asked about Isak's fitness and preparations, said: "I don’t think there’s a rule that every single player has the same.

"But it also depends on what he did when he didn’t train with the team, what the impact is if you go to a new club as a big signing.

"So you cannot compare, maybe a player who hasn’t trained or played in pre-season at a smaller club than if you go to Liverpool.
