Lewis Miley has been urged by Eddie Howe to use Sandro Tonali as a mentor at Newcastle United - but knows one day the pair could form a lethal midfield partnership.

Miley stepped in for Tonali against Benfica and did not put a foot wrong with the teenager returning to the form that elevated him from a raw reserve to first-team star in the 2023/24 campaign.

Since then he had endured injury issues including a back problem and a foot injury suffered when out on a pre-season run last summer.

But Howe feels the Stanley lad is getting back to his very best and following the example could yet take him to the next level, and said: "I think he's got some great role models there to look at.

"You've got different parts of each of the midfielders that we've just discussed, and you'd go, 'I'd love to take a bit of that (Sandro) and then put it into one player'.
