Spanish football legend Gaizka Mendieta has suggested Barcelona could target Liverpool forward Alexander Isak in the foreseeable future. The former Barca midfielder is conscious of Robert Lewandowski's circumstances in Catalonia and reckons his former club may set their sights on Isak.

Poland icon Lewandowski, who boasts 105 goals in 156 outings for Barca, celebrated his 37th birthday in August and is in the twilight of an iconic career. His deal at the Camp Nou is set to run out next summer, although the Blaugrana have the option to prolong his stay by a further 12 months.

Isak, 26, remains in his peak years and was the focus of a Premier League record £125million switch to Anfield during the summer. Yet despite that fact, the Sweden international could be heading elsewhere if Barca make their approach, according to Mendieta.
