Liverpool have been waiting for Florian Wirtz to show why he is one of the best players in the world.

The £116 million signing has been seen as a future great of the game, but since joining the Reds, he has not been able to perform as he did for Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Wirtz has shown glimpses of brilliance when he has been on the pitch, although it has not been anything substantial enough to stop the criticism that has come his way from pundits.

Why he has been quite poor for Liverpool is two-fold: it is a new league, so he has to adapt, and the squad have not been playing to the best of their capabilities, which does not help.

The star has been on international break with Germany and has shown in his most recent performance that he is obviously a high-quality player and that he will eventually bring this to the team consistently.

He has one more game with his national side against Northern Ireland tonight before he heads back to Liverpool, so it will be interesting to see if this good form continues.
