Elliott Nevitt came off the bench to salvage a last-gasp 1-1 draw for Gillingham and prevent back-to-back league wins for Cheltenham under returning boss Steve Cotterill.

The striker's low drilled effort from just outside the box deep into stoppage time was enough to secure a point for the hosts, who had dominated the majority of the game.

Sam Sherring's header in the 87th minute had looked to have given the Robins all three points.

The hosts made a flying start and nearly took the lead within the first 30 seconds when Seb Palmer-Houlden's powerful effort required a smart stop from Joe Day.

Cheltenham nearly took the lead against the run of play after 35 minutes when Jacob Bickerstaff cut in from the left and had space to shoot. His effort was deflected by Sam Gale before Glenn Morris produced an excellent save.

Isaac Hutchinson had a golden chance to break the deadlock moments before the interval. A poor defensive clearance was pounced upon and the forward found space to receive the ball inside the box but, with the goal at his mercy, could only strike a post.

Gillingham continued to dominate following the interval but Sherring found the back of the net...
