Glen Johnson has urged Chelsea to launch an ambitious transfer swoop for England captain Harry Kane next summer to bolster their attacking unit.

Kane has enjoyed a barnstorming start his third season at Bayern Munich, notching up 11 goals and three assists in his first six Bundesliga games.

Despite that, the 32-year-old’s long-term future at the German giants is far from certain with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.

Additional reports suggested that Kane has a £56.7million release clause that can be activated at the end of this season leading to speculation that the Englishman could plot a move back to the Premier League.

But while Thomas Frank insisted he would welcome Kane back to Tottenham, Johnson believes that it is Chelsea who are best positioned to pull off an audacious swoop for the England captain.
