Liverpool have been handed a fresh injury scare after Jeremie Frimpong was substituted during a cameo appearance for the Netherlands. The right-back was not named in the starting line-up by manager Ronald Koeman but was substituted on at half-time in the friendly match against Ecuador, where he replaced Reds teammate Cody Gakpo.

However, after just 13 minutes, Koeman was forced into another change as Frimpong was replaced by Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

The exact reason for the substitution is still unclear, but the change will prompt fears that the Liverpool defender has suffered another injury blow.

Liverpool are gearing up for their return to the pitch as they face Manchester City in the quarter-final of the FA Cup this weekend, and are already dealing with several other injury concerns during the international break.
