Bristol City have appointed Roy Hodgson as their head coach for the remainder of the campaign in a surprising move after the Championship club opted to dismiss Gerhard Struber. The former England and Liverpool boss, 78, will take charge of the club's final seven fixtures of the season after accepting his first position since departing Crystal Palace in February 2024.

Struber departs his role following a spell of just three victories from the Robins' last 13 league matches which saw them tumble out of the play-off places. The Austrian had been hindered by the departure of key players during the January transfer window, though, including club captain Zak Vyner and forward Anis Mehmeti.

Bristol City's chief executive officer, Charlie Boss, said in a statement: "I would like to thank Gerhard and Bernd for their hard work over the past nine months and we wish them all the best.

"Roy's appointment is about more than the results of the next seven games.

"Over the remainder of the season, he will help us set the standards and values at the club that we will need to be successful going forwards.
