Arsenal have been monitoring Palmeiras defender Luis Benedetti for months, but the Brazilian club may first send the youngster on loan to gain more experience before any move to Europe.

That’s according to Bolavip, who report that Palmeiras are discussing a potential loan for the 19-year-old centre-back to another Brazilian side, Athletico Paranaense. The move is being considered internally as a way to give the defender more consistent playing time.

Benedetti already belongs to manager Abel Ferreira’s senior squad. However, strong competition in Palmeiras’ defence has limited his opportunities this season.

Loan option emerges in development plan

Bolavip explain that Palmeiras see the loan as part of their wider development strategy for young players. The club want Benedetti to gain regular minutes at a high level.

Talks with Athletico are ongoing. The goal is to structure a deal that guarantees the defender consistent involvement during the season.

Internally, Palmeiras believe this type of experience could accelerate his growth. The expectation is that he would return more prepared to compete for a place in the first team.

So far, Benedetti has made 16 appearances for Palmeiras’ senior side. He has scored once and accumulated close to 1,000 minutes.
