Carlos Vicente’s move to Birmingham City is being treated as a ‘major success’ by his former club Deportivo Alavés.

That’s according to COPE. They cover Vicente’s move to Birmingham today and put a very positive spin on it.

The outlet state that Vicente’s move to Birmingham is ‘one of the most lucrative’ departures at Alavés in their recent history. It’s all positive from them, despite cries of derision elsewhere.

The deal has brought the Basque club €8m, with a further €2m in add-ons, delivering a substantial profit on the €600,000 they paid for him. Alavés signed him from Racing de Ferrol two and a half years ago and now cash in on a major return.

From a financial standpoint, the deal is being viewed as a major success. Vicente’s move to Birmingham is the fourth most expensive in Alavés history.

The negative is that he needs to be replaced. Vicente was a player with potential, directness and attacking prowess and, crucially, impressing under manager Eduardo ‘Chacho’ Coudet. Now they need a replacement.
