Commerce City, Colo. – Sydney Wathuta has signed a first team contract with Colorado Rapids, the club announced Monday. The contract is a 2+1+1, two seasons through 2027. Team options for 2027-28 and 2028-29. Wathuta was the 16th overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. Wathuta played two years of college soccer at the University of Vermont, winning a National Championship in 2024. After being drafted, he signed a one-year MLS NEXT Pro contract with Rapids 2. In 2025, he recorded six goals and six assists in 22 games for R2. He was called up multiple times to the first team, making two appearances and recording an assist in Leagues Cup in a match against C.F. Monterrey.
