Three days ago, Birmingham City completed the signing of Carlos Vicente from Deportivo Alavés on a permanent transfer. He has signed a contract until 2029 at St Andrew’s.

Prior to joining the Blues, the Spaniard had spent his entire career in his home country. His move from La Liga to the Championship has raised a few eyebrows in Spain, with a belief it’s a sign of the poor finances in Spanish football.

Heraldo de Aragón used this transfer as an example to explain the ‘systemic crisis’.

Vicente is now ready for a new challenge at Birmingham City. He’s appeared as a guest on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero to explain his decision to leave the top division in Spain for the Championship, and several other topics.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed his first few days with Chris Davies’ side.

“It’s a big change, but for now I’m very happy, to be honest. They can’t treat me any better,” he said.
