Liverpool have signed Martha Thomas on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and Denise O’Sullivan on a permanent transfer.

Midfielder O’Sullivan announced on Saturday that she was leaving North Carolina Courage after nine years in the USA, ready for what she described on social media as “a new challenge”.

She later spoke to the club’s official website and said that she wanted to give the benefit of her experience to the Reds’ young squad as they look to get themselves off the bottom of the Women’s Super League table.

“I want to help this team and it’s important to get results and that’s what I’m here for, to have an impact,” she was quoted as saying.

“I want to come in and have an impact from the first minute and get going with the team. I am a natural leader, I want to lead by example and lead with humility as well, bring everyone up around me and that’s what I’m here...
