So far this season, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has preferred a midfield pairing of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in the Premier League.

The Brazilian’s resurgence has been impressive to say the least. Last season, when the Portuguese tactician came onboard, the former Real Madrid superstar hardly got a look-in.

With Amorim demanding more intensity, it looked certain that the five-time Champions League winner’s time at Old Trafford was drawing to a close.

But the 33-year-old worked hard in training and in the gym and his professionalism won over the ex-Sporting CP boss. And since then, Casemiro has been among the first names on the teamsheet.

His importance is such that Manuel Ugarte, signed as the Brazil international’s successor, has stated only three games this term while wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo has not been a part of the starting XI even once in the Premier League this campaign.

However, with the defensive midfielder’s current contract set to come to an end next summer, the Red Devils have a tough call to take.

The club does have the option of triggering a one-year extension but INEOS are unlikely to pay the midfield maestro his current wages.
