Manchester United u21s travelled to take on Notts County in their final EFL Trophy group stage match this evening.

After losing their opening two matches in the competition, United needed a win to have any chance of advancing from the group.

First half

United started off by taking control of possession in the match but it was the home side, Notts County, who had the first big chance.

Maziar Khouyar cut in from the right wing before bending the ball towards the top left corner, which forced a save from Will Murdock at full stretch.

United took the lead on the half-hour mark through a wonderful strike by Shea Lacey.

Chido Obi shrugged off his marker before looping a pass into the path of Lacey to take a touch and strike low past the keeper at the near post.

Lacey was United’s main threat through the half and his goal sent United into the break with a 0-1 lead.

Second half
