Real Madrid’s trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool tonight will be a “litmus test” for Xabi Alonso’s developing project at the club.

That’s according to journalist Edu Aguirre, via Mundo Deportivo. He believes that the Champions League clash will be a test for the Spanish giants.

Real Madrid take on Liverpool this evening looking to continue their strong start to the season. They’ve won ten out of 11 games in La Liga and sit top of the table. They’ve also won all three of their Champions League games to date.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have had a rocky start to the season. They’ve won six and lost four in the Premier League, won two and lost one in the Champions League and been knocked out of the FA Cup.

Things are not going smoothly for them, but Aguirre believes that they’ll still be a litmus test for Madrid.

“It’s a litmus test for a project that’s working, which is Xabi Alonso’s project,” he said on ‘El Chiringuito de Jugones.’

“They’ve won 13 of their last 14 matches. Liverpool aren’t playing particularly well, but it will be a big game.”
