Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold made his comeback to Anfield to a symphony of jeers from the Kop ahead of the Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.

The full-back, who departed for the Spanish giants during the summer after allowing his contract to expire, was named among the substitutes for Xabi Alonso's squad this evening and wasn't included in the starting eleven who were collectively whistled as they emerged onto the pitch.

The England star instead made his entrance alongside his fellow reserves moments later, stepping onto the turf solo after sharing warm embraces with various Liverpool staff members in the tunnel.

Alexander-Arnold was all smiles despite the hostile reception from the Liverpool supporters as he walked onto the field.

With Amazon Prime presenter Gabby Logan observing: "Some fans have just got a glimpse of him there as he says hello to members of staff. He's ready for this."
