Newcastle United have been given a new VAR penalty verdict following their 3-1 defeat to West Ham United.

Eddie Howe's side were beaten by the struggling Hammers despite taking the lead through Jacob Murphy after just four minutes. Goals from Lucas Paqueta, a Sven Botman own goal and late strike from Tomas Souceck gave Nuno Espirito Santo's side an important three points.

In truth, the hosts could have scored more goals had VAR not intervened to deny West Ham a penalty and a goal. Former Premier League striker Jay Bothroyd was highly critical of both decisions, while former referee Dermott Gallagher felt the right call had been made in both instances.
