It’s nearly here! The start of the football season is less than a couple of weeks away. That long gap of 13 weeks without Rovers is drawing to a close. One more Saturday is like the night before Crimbo. As a kid my parents were plagued with us kids getting up at 4am on Christmas Day. I don’t think that will happen on 2nd August, but it’s still the end of the barren bit of the year.
Just to get it out of the way, I won’t be going to the Wigan game. I stopped doing pre-season friendlies a while ago. I’ve no intention of sitting in the wrong seat on Saturday watching a pointless match, ruined by too many substitutions and unidentifiable trialists. There was a time when we could attract teams from at least a couple of divisions higher, or the better Scottish teams. Wigan is neither a sufficiently interesting pull nor a particular challenge. To quote from Britain’s got talent ‘it’s a no from me, Andy’.
