Liverpool’s defeat to Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup has extended a nightmare run for the team.

Arne Slot decided to field a majority of youngsters in the League Cup game against Palace, as the young squad lost 3-0 to a strong Oliver Glasner side at Anfield.

It was a performance in which there was nothing really to be ashamed of from the academy stars, with many of the match’s mistakes coming from senior players such as Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson.

The decision to make up not just the starting XI but also the bench of young stars was interesting because, on one hand, it gave first-team players a rest, but not having enough experience left the side without a chance.

There were minimal individual errors from those in the under-21s set-up; however, one star found himself sent off shortly after coming onto the pitch.
