Formose Mendy says he took the right step by joining Watford in the summer, but his future is unclear.

The centre-back has given an interview to Top Mercato, in which he talked about his arrival at Watford, his future and other topics.

On summer deadline day, Watford signed the 24-year-old from FC Lorient on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Last season, Mendy played 22 matches for Lorient, who secured promotion to the top division. He played two matches in Ligue 1 this season before the Hornets secured his services.

Top Mercato say his move to the Championship side came as a surprise considering Mendy was expected to be a starter for the Ligue 1 side this season.

When asked how his move to Vicarage Road materialised, the Senegal international explained and said he’s pleased with the decision.

“Yes, that’s true, I played two Ligue 1 matches before leaving. I spoke with my agent, and he told me there were ongoing discussions. Then things progressed, and he told me I was going to Watford. It happened that way because it was the right move for me,” he said.
