Tonight’s match is the first of three at Anfield in the space of a week for the Reds, offering them the perfect opportunity to end their recent run of poor form.

On Saturday, Liverpool slumped to a 3-2 defeat against Brentford in the Premier League — their fourth successive loss in the top flight. Their only positive result in recent weeks was a 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.

Ordinarily, this competition might rank low on Arne Slot’s list of priorities, with Liverpool expected to compete for both the Premier League and the Champions League after a busy summer of spending.

However, given their current struggles, the Dutchman may see this as a chance to restore confidence. A win under the Anfield lights could do his side the world of good.

With that in mind, it’s difficult to predict exactly how Slot will line up. Alexander Isak and Curtis Jones remain doubts through injury, while Jeremie Frimpong and Ryan Gravenberch also look set to miss out.
