Jeff Stelling has publicly apologised to Jordan Henderson after admitting he misjudged the midfielder’s ability to perform again at Premier League level. Henderson left Liverpool in July 2023 to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in a deal worth £12m, a move that sparked major controversy given his views on LGBTQ rights.

But after just six months in the Middle East, the former Liverpool captain departed to join Ajax for £4m. Despite arriving in Amsterdam during a turbulent period for the Dutch giants, Henderson quickly established himself as captain and rediscovered his form.

It was the ideal platform for the 35-year-old to reignite his career ahead of a surprise return to the Premier League with Brentford this season.
