Mathys Tel has not had an easy start to the season with Tottenham Hotspur.

Having initially arriving on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy during the winter transfer window, Mathys Tel was signed permanently for a fee of about £30m. He made 20 appearances for Spurs last season, scoring three goals, and was an unused substitute for their victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final.

The young Frenchman was left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad for the League Phase, which was a decision that shocked many, considering that he became new boss Thomas Frank’s first signing at the club on the back of his successful five-month loan spell. Integrating him into the team proved challenging for Thomas Frank, but Mathys Tel never let his frustrations show. Instead, he continued to work tirelessly in training and prove his gaffer wrong.

The 20-year-old’s hard work and character has not gone unnoticed by the Tottenham gaffer, with the forward having started back-to-back Premier League games against Leeds United and Aston Villa.
