Midfielder George Byers says there "should not be a ceiling" on what Port Vale can achieve this season after the club suffered their first defeat in six games in League One.

Vale's 1-0 loss at Wigan ended an unbeaten run that had seen Darren Moore's side pick up 11 points from a possible 15.

Malaece Asamoah's 56th-minute strike proved enough for the Latics, who played the whole second half with 10 men after Dara Costelloe was sent off.

"We'll look at ourselves," Byers told BBC Radio Stoke. "We've got to do better but it's down to us to be honest, try to regroup, pick ourselves up and go again.

"Every game's going to be different. We should be on top in games, especially against teams that go down to 10 men."
