Liverpool’s season hit a new low on Sunday as they succumbed to a late defeat against Manchester United.

The Reds were hoping to hit restart after the October international break, but instead fell further into a deepening pit of despair.

The loss was a fourth consecutive one for Arne Slot, who became the first Liverpool manager since Brendan Rodgers in 2014 to achieve that unwanted feat.

Even the Liverpool team who went on that appalling run under Rodgers 11 years ago managed to pull themselves away from a fifth defeat running, however.

It was not much of a reprieve, but they did claim a 2-2 draw against Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League to stop the rot.

Once again, it is an away game on the European stage which stands between Liverpool and a fifth straight loss. But if Slot cannot manage what Rodgers did and loses again, he will do something not seen at Anfield for over 70 years.
