Peterborough United defender Jacob Mendy is facing an extended spell on the sidelines because of a groin injury.

The 28-year-old, who is on loan from Wrexham, suffered the injury in training on Friday and missed the 1-0 win at Burton Albion on Saturday.

Mendy has started five games for Posh in League One since his arrival on deadline day in September.

"He was starting the game and then literally in the last minute of the session, we were just doing a bit on set-pieces, he's felt his groin - we've had the scan results and it's a very bad injury," boss Darren Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"He'll certainly be going back to Wrexham and you're looking at months rather than weeks."

Although the win at Burton lifted Peterborough off the bottom of League One, Ferguson described their first-half performance when on the ball as "appalling" and said he would not be watching a play-back of the game.

"It's a good result, that's always the most important thing, clean sheet, and we defended well against what we knew they would throw at us," he said.
