Manager David Moyes today confirmed that both Jarrad Branthwaite and Merlin Rohl are ‘back on the grass’.

Branthwaite is yet to feature this season, with Michael Keane partnering James Tarkowski in his absence.

The 23-year-old committed his future to the club with a new contract during the summer, but has been absent for three months.

Rohl meanwhile has played just once since his arrival from Freiburg in the summer transfer window.

The midfielder was a second half substitute in last month’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.

Indeed, it was an impressive cameo from the German, however he has been subsequently sidelined.

Both players significantly improve David Moyes’ options and so their availability will be an enormous boost.

Right-back Nathan Patterson however picked up an injury midweek playing for the U21’s, so will not be available for selection.

Speaking at today’s press conference ahead of the City clash, Moyes said:  “Jarrad [Branthwaite] is back on the grass, Merlin [Röhl] is back on the grass.

“Unfortunately Patto [Patterson] picked up an injury for the Under-21s in midweek, so we’ve got bits and pieces going on but all the clubs will be the same.”
