Former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson insists he is not the England squad's "cheerleader" - hitting back at accusations over his role in the Three Lions set up.

Henderson, now 35 and plying his trade back in the Premier League with Brentford after spells in Saudi Arabia and at Ajax, was handed a shock recall by Thomas Tuchel in his first England squad. He hasn't been left out by the German coach since.

Henderson's place in the squad has led to accusations that he's not there on footballing merit, but merely because he's a good character to have in the dressing room. However, the man who lifted Anfield's first Premier League title insists that's not the case, as he sets his sights on the World Cup next summer.
