An ex-England footballer with a brain tumour has been given six-to-nine months left to live.

Amy Carr was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2015 after she collapsed in her bedroom upon seeing a spider. Doctors mistakenly told the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Reading star that the episode was instigated by a phobia of the arachnid, but she later had two more blackouts at the gym.

The 34-year-old had surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to treat the grade four, golf ball-sized astrocytoma, and thought she was in the clear until recently. But after experiencing blurred vision and slurred speech shortly after an annual check-up last year, doctors found the tumour had regrown.

On August 15, Amy was told she's terminally ill and given a short prognosis of just six to nine months left to live, after thinking she was all clear for nearly a decade. Devastated, she says the prognosis also came just weeks before she was due to go on a 10-day cruise around Naples, Florence and Santorini with her best friend.
