Bruno Fernandes has been named in Garth Crooks’ latest BBC Team of the Week.
Manchester United Football Club were actually pretty decent against Aston Villa for the most part. Sadly, our defensive issues were highlighted once again. The midfield didn’t help out the back line, either…
Despite some encouraging signs, this United team just has no spine or backbone when the going gets tough. As soon as Villa scored one, you just know they’d ramp up the pressure on this United team and likely score another. It didn’t take Coutinho long to do just that…
With that said, there was a couple of United players who stood out. For the fans, it was Anthony Elanga. He looked like the shining light during a tough outing. For pundits, it was easy to opt for Bruno Fernandes.
After all, Bruno Fernandes did score both of our goals. The first a fortunate strike from outside the area which the keeper struggled with. The second was trademark Bruno, who capitalised on a defensive error before slamming home.
For that display, Bruno was the one United star named in the latest BBC Team of the Week. Gareth Crooks was also quick to label Bruno’s work for the second goal in particular, as ‘brilliant’.
It was a genuinely class outing from Fernandes. And I don’t think it’s unfair to suggest that he plays better when the other Portuguese superstar in our squad isn’t in the side…
Bruno needs to be in that attacking-midfield role, with players around him who are constantly on the move. He loves running in-behind the opposing defenders but when Ronaldo’s in that area of the field, that space just isn’t that for our Portuguese Magnifico.
We’re still better with Ronnie in the side, it just means that Bruno has to play a little differently.
