Kevin Campbell has claimed Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa made “a big statement” by bringing teenage sensation Archie Gray to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker suggested a first team debut could be around the corner for the 15-year-old given Marcelo Bielsa’s track record.
As captured by club media, Gray travelled with the first team squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Spurs.
The Athletic‘s Phil Hay revealed on November 22nd that the young midfielder has “set tongues wagging” at Thorp Arch with his displays in first-team training.
Archie Gray is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Frank and uncle Eddie – both of whom enjoyed illustrious careers at Elland Road.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the development, Campbell said: “To be 15 and travelling with the first team is a big statement.
“Bielsa definitely has high hopes for him.
“If he can get some minutes between now and the end of the season… That would tell me that he is going to be a top player.
“But if he is just travelling with the squad maybe he needs a bit more time. As soon as he gets on the pitch, he is on the radar. That is the key.
“It would be typical of Bielsa to do something like that. He is not afraid to give a youngster a go. He loves giving youngsters a go and I commend him for it.”
