Kieran Maguire is in awe of Leeds United after it was revealed the club are close to 300,000 shirt sales this year.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the football finance expert said the Whites can use the figure as leverage to secure improved sponsorship deals in the future.
The Athletic‘s Phil Hay revealed on October 8th that Leeds are enjoying great commercial success this season.
Shirt sales are predicted to be close to 300,000.
Leeds agreed a five-year partnership with Adidas in July 2020 in what the club described as a “record-breaking” deal.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the numbers, Maguire said: “It is an amazing achievement.
“Manchester United are normally looking around the £3.2million mark. But, are Leeds’ numbers good by the standards of the other 14, yes. They are excellent.
“Is it going to allow Leeds to compete with the biggest clubs? No. There is still a huge gap to bridge.
“There are two elements to a kit deal. There is normally a fixed fee and then you get a commission.
“Adidas will be delighted with the numbers.
“Leeds are going to be leveraging on this to get themselves a better deal when it comes up for renewal. They will want Adidas to up their game in terms of what they’re prepared to offer. They could threaten to sign for Nike or Puma. It is a fantastic start.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has made a £250m Leeds claim after an ‘ambitious’ stadium update.
