Paddy Kenny has tipped Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier to have an “unbelievable” career amid interest from Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds shot-stopper admitted he could see why the Reds are keen on the 21-year-old.
As revealed by Football Insider (12th October), Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the Leeds shot-stopper, with their scouts “blown away” by his comfort under pressure.
It is understood multiple clubs are interested in Meslier after his meteoric rise at Elland Road.
He has been a mainstay for Leeds since their promotion to the Premier League and made his 10th start of the season in all competitions against Watford today.
The Frenchman is among the 50 youngest players to have featured in the opening eight games of the Premier League this season.
However, few are as established in the starting XI as Meslier is at Leeds.
Kenny admitted the keeper is an “exceptional” talent at his age.
Asked what it was about Meslier that impresses most, Kenny told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I just think his age. He’s 21-years-old, playing in only his second season in the Premier League.
“In his performances, he’s confident, he can play out from the back, he makes saves. I just think he’s got everything.
“He still looks like a young boy, which he is. I’m sure he will fill out along the way and put some size on.
“He is an exceptional talent and I’m sure he’s going to have an unbelievable career in the game.
“If you’re sitting on a five, six-year deal, they’re going to have to pay top dollar to get you out that contract. It’s key these players get big contracts and keep them tied down for the long term.”
Meslier signed a new deal until 2026 back in August.
