Liverpool reportedly overlooked PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as they pondered who could be a long-term replacement for Alisson Becker.

The Reds will come face-to-face with PSG this Wednesday, though neither Chevalier nor Alisson are expected to play.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will keep goal for Liverpool, and ahead of the biggest night of his career so far, The Times have taken a look at the other options who were seen as potential successors to Alisson at Anfield.

After joining PSG for a reported £48m from Lille last summer, Chevalier was seen as the direct replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma and the long-term man for the No. 1 shirt at Parc des Princes.

Things have not worked out that way so far, though, with the 24-year-old losing his place to Matvey Safanov in January.

His struggles may go some way to explaining why Liverpool reportedly took a look at him in the summer of 2024, but ultimately decided to go with Mamardashvili.
