Tottenham’s January recruits – Mason Melia and James Wilson – made an immediate impact on Saturday, both getting on the scoresheet in a win for the U21s.

Tottenham supporters are still left wondering why the club did not strengthen more aggressively in the January transfer window.

Despite a growing injury list and several players underperforming, Spurs added only Conor Gallagher and Brazilian left-back Souza to the first team, with neither making a major impact so far.

There were even moments when former manager Igor Tudor was forced to name benches filled almost entirely with academy players. To his credit, the Croatian did give several of those youngsters minutes, even in important matches.

The academy itself, which won Premier League 2 in the 2023/24 season, has seen a dip after many key players moved out on loan.

However, there is still plenty of talent coming through, with names such as Callum Olusesi, James Rowswell and Luca Williams-Barnett continuing to impress.
