Real Madrid staff reportedly misdiagnosed star Kylian Mbappé's recent knee injury.

According to Guillermo Rai and Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Real Madrid's medical staff performed an MRI on Mbappé's wrong leg in Dec. 2025. The 27-year-old was experiencing issues with his left knee, although the scan was performed on his right leg.

Mbappé went on to appear in three matches for Madrid before the mistake was realized and rectified, per Rai and Cortegana.

He eventually underwent another scan that showed a partial posterior knee ligament tear. Mbappé didn't travel with Real Madrid for the Supercopa de Espana semifinal in Saudi Arabia before joining the team for the final against Barcelona on Jan. 11, via Rai and Cortegana.

Mbappé first suffered the injury following a blow to his knee during Real Madrid's 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo on Dec. 7.

He's continued to navigate through left knee issues as of late, coming off the bench in each of Madrid's last two matches.

Mbappé provided an update regarding his health on Monday.
