Leicester City have signed striker Nathan Opoku to a new contract to ensure he won’t leave on a free transfer this summer.

The Ghanaian forward, currently on loan at League Two side Newport County, has added a year to his deal to keep him at the King Power Stadium until summer 2027.

Opoku joined City in January 2023 after playing university football in the US. He’s not made a senior appearance for the club, but spent one-and-a-half seasons on loan at sister club OH Leuven before a leg fracture saw him miss a year of action.

Last summer, he joined Sammy Braybrooke in moving to Newport on loan, but while the midfielder switched to Chesterfield in January, Opoku’s stay with the Exiles was extended to the end of the season.
