Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has revealed he opted to reject Tottenham in order to stay at Liverpool in January because he wants to stay on until he is 'no longer needed.'

The Scot, 31, held talks over a move to the relegation-threatened club in the winter transfer window as they scrambled for options to help their survival boost, but ultimately chose to stay put.

He has been at Liverpool since 2017, making 369 appearances for the club, though has now found himself behind Milos Kerkez in the left back pecking order.

Still, he remains committed when selected, and has now spoken on the move falling through.

'There was obviously interest there - there were discussions had with both sets of clubs,' he said after scoring in Liverpool's FA Cup win over Wolves on Friday. 'But the decision was that I wanted to stay. We stayed at Liverpool and that was the decision made.'
