Monchi has admitted that Unai Emery is capable of managing the biggest clubs in the world, but insists that he is settled in Birmingham and happy leading Aston Villa’s project.

With less than three months left of the season remaining, Emery is determined to seal Villa’s return to the Champions League and also end the club’s 30-year wait for silverware by winning the Europa League.

Having won the European competition four times - including three consecutive titles with Sevilla and another with Villarreal - Emery’s reputation across Europe was immensely high when he took over at Villa in October 2022.

It was only in England that he still had doubters to convince, following a testing spell at Arsenal. Since then, however, he has proven himself to be one of the top coaches in the game.

Under his guidance, Villa have earned the fourth-most points in the world’s best league, despite operating under far greater transfer-market restrictions than their rivals.
