A Tottenham player’s agent has revealed that his client turned down the chance to sign for Southampton in January.

It was a much quieter January window than many Tottenham fans anticipated, with Spurs having a net spend of just £12m across January.

However, Brennan Johnson was not the only Tottenham Hotspur winger to make a move in January, with the Lilywhites also managing to do a deal for a forgotten senior star.

Manor Solomon was recalled from Villarreal and joined Fiorentina on loan last month after struggling for game time at the La Liga club in the first half of the season.

The 26-year-old has made a fine start to his time in Serie A, having found the back of the net twice already for his new club.

The winger’s agent has now revealed that Solomon, who previously had a successful stint with Leeds United in the Championship, had an opportunity to join Southampton last month.

Shlomy Ben Ezra, who represents the Israeli international, told Sport 5‘s ‘Five in the Air’: “Yes, he had the option to go to Southampton, but he didn’t want to go to the second division.”
