The 22-year-old Belgian, who joined Rangers from Charai's Westerlo last month, immediately caught the eye in his 25-minute cameo on Wednesday, achieving his first assist for Oliver Antman's goal late on against Neil McCann's side.

“It was wonderful to make my debut. It felt like I had been waiting a long time,” Rommens said. “I was a little bit frustrated [that my debut was delayed], but I had something in my back, so we had to manage it. Now I'm just focused on getting minutes on the pitch.

“I think it was a good game to get my first minutes. The team did well, so it’s easier to come in when you’re ahead rather than behind. I think it was a good performance. Of course, I’m very excited about what we can achieve this season. That’s also why I joined this club. We aim for the highest, and I’m very excited for the next 13 games.

“[Issame Charai] said it’s a wonderful club and advised me to come here. He told me good things about the city, the club, the people here, all friendly, all positive.”
