Thierno Barry’s Instagram updates are offering a light-hearted glimpse inside his first season at Everton but his latest post pokes fun at one of his team-mates in brutal fashion. Back in November, when the Frenchman was still waiting to break his scoring duck but was given a standing ovation by the crowd at Hill Dickinson Stadium when substituted in a 2-0 win over Fulham, he took to the social media platform to write: “There are things that mean more than goals.

“With my difficult start to the season without scoring, receiving an ovation from you today really warmed my heart and showed me that I’m on the right path. Once again, thank you so much!”

The 23-year-old also added a note about his choice of profile picture at the time, which showed him looking glum on the bench at Sunderland the previous week after being substituted having earlier missed a sitter with a close-range chance at the back post from Jack Grealish’s cross.
