Victory for Newcastle United against PSV Eindhoven tonight will guarantee Eddie Howe's side book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League - while even a point would all-but seal their participation in the next phase.

Tuesday night's results mean the Magpies head into tonight's encounter with the Dutch side at St James' Park in the knowledge that a win could catapult them to sixth place in the standings.

That would mean they stand a strong chance to finishing in a top-eight position, which would automatically send them through the last-16.

However, they must travel to Paris Saint-Germain for what will be a difficult final group game next week, but can at least ensure they head to the French capital with nothing to lose, should they collect three points this evening.

In fact, a four-goal margin of victory tonight would elevate Howe's men above PSG and move them into fifth spot, depending on how Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Atalanta fare.
